Summer Blog Series: On the Road Part Five: Festivals & Fairs

A little bit late in the day with this post (I’m still awful at scheduling so I do them by hand – life gets in the way!) and I’m getting it in barely under the wire but here’s the tail end of my journey. Home again to the NW Missouri State Fair – at least I think that’s what it was – well, it was a fair at any rate! I’m trying a different photo style, let me know if you like this better or worse than the slideshows!

I loved this old-fashioned, Coney Island-like slide ride!

I couldn’t afford this retro-looking trailer from Scentsy but I had to nab a picture!

Things I can’t eat. *cries*

The fair actually looked like it was going to be more fun from the parking lot!

And there was racing, if you can call it that! They over-watered the track and it took two hours to dry it out! Bit feeble, if you ask me. The announcer spent the whole two hours yelling at the drivers to get out on the track as if they were children. Sheesh!

They’re still drying the track – hours later!

And not a vegan snack in sight. Makes a girl want to set up her own concession stand!

After that, the Renaissance Festival! My second time, ever, attending. I feel more out of place there than I do on the street in my 1940s clothes but it was a lot of fun! And the location is lovely, with a lot of permanent structures to make it all more believable! I wasn’t too thrilled with the animal rides, though. I don’t remember that from last time, I might be firm about not doing RenFest again now that I know it’s going on but the animals did seem to be treated well and the weather was nice, so that’s something. Still not a fan but I’m trying desperately to look on the bright side! Grrr.

Hail, Thor! I mean, ahem. Very pretty.

My mother used to make these. Aren’t they lovely? I’m especially attached to the spiders. <3

Wooden bowls, one of the things I loved most in the shops at RenFest.

Octopus – much cooler than the dragon.

A church! Isn’t it lovely?

My sister mooched catering so we got a little free food. I couldn’t have the doughnut holes but I was glad for the fruit!

The Fairy dance was funny and lovely, especially the introductions of the players that included a Mare and a Banshee! It was lots of fun and a show is a great way to take a load off after walking all day.

Well, that’s some of my crazy adventures in the past few weeks. I’ve spent a lot of time on the road and will continue to do so until this crazy year is over. I decided to not include local trips (which are too many, in Missouri every day trip takes hours each way!) or our trip to Arkansas to get Cowboy’s 36 Plymouth – that last one will be a bit later. I hope your summer has been eventful and outrageously fun!
