The way home had more adventure than the way up – first, we stopped in Atlantic City! None of us had ever been there before, except Cowboy who’d been there once as a child in the 1960s. Disappointed to find out that it’s all casinos and fast food, nothing really fun to do and all the old-time charm is gone and probably has been for decades.
Cowboy is a big Trump supporter (obviously, I’m the opposite!) and wanted to see the Taj Mahal, so we went only to find that it was being picketed by it’s workers. Cowboy was a bit annoyed as my sister and I will never cross a picket line and he didn’t want to go in alone. Oh bother!
Then we made a fun pit stop at the I76 Antique Mall (and a couple of gorgeous hats – doesn’t that black one scream Dior’s ‘New Look’?)…
…and another stop in Springfield, where we visited the Abraham Lincoln Depot to see some lovely exhibits and watched a short documentary (a gentleman would pretend I was wearing makeup in these photos!).
We sped by the Lincoln Library (shame, I’d have loved to see that)… and the Capitol building.
Then on to Hannibal, Missouri! This Mark Twain lover had a ball in museums and antique shops! We went through Walt Disney’s Marceline, too, but I didn’t take photos. Cowboy was in a foul mood and Girl Crowley was sick as she sometimes gets on car trips so we just blew on by and I couldn’t be bothered!
